Mzi Nodlayiya – tenor – sings ‘Una furtiva lagrima’ (One furtive drop) from Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore. Mzi is a student at Opera UCT, the only opera-focussed college in Africa.
Beau Constantia is arguably one of the most picturesque wine farms in one of the most beautiful wine regions in the world. And clearly, from this interpretation, the wines are sublime enough to make you fall in love.

The late great Silvia Mdunyelwa – known as ‘Mama Silvia’ – was an international Jazz diva, born and bred in Langa. Those who were lucky enough could catch her for a conversation, which would inevitably turn into long reminiscences, and sometimes even a song or two.
Here she sings in the entrance courtyard at Guga s’Thebe, the Arts & Culture centre in the heart of Langa.

Sopranos Fanele Mkhwanazi and Frances van Vuuren – transported by the taste of their falafels – sing the Flower Duet from Delibes’ Lakme.
Fanele and Frances are both students at Opera UCT, which is renowned for producing remarkable singers who go on to perform all over the world.
The Falafel Guy is a hugely popular vendor of authentic Middle Eastern street food in the heart of Sea Point.

Tenor Mkhanyiseli Dyantyi and soprano Zizipho Funzo performed the ‘Brindisi’ from Verdi’s La Traviata, in a flashmob at Truth Coffee.
Truth Coffee was voted as “the world’s best coffee shop” by the UK’s Daily Telegraph. Its remarkable steampunk interior, designed by Capetonian Haldane Martin, is matched only by the excellence of its artisan coffee roastery.
